News You Should Know: The Beginning

Since I announced the idea of this segment on Wednesday, my brain has just been flying with ideas. That’s how it usually works with me – start with one thing and days later it will morph into another.

The News You Should Know segment was going to post two Tuesdays a month and be a collection of news articles and links that a Christian woman should have at least a general idea about going forward. Current events are important and the more you understand what is happening around the world, the more life will make sense to you!

The content of News You Should Know will not change, but, as you can see, it will post the first and third Monday every month.

Even more than the change in posting days, I have added a link-up to the bottom of every segment. I want your participation! I want to hear about the news stories that changed your perspective on life, taught you something new, and made you go “whoa…”. They can be from the newspaper, a blog, online news site, or even a story you caught on TV with your morning cup of tea. (Because I hate coffee.)

Utilize this tool to link up your own blog post of a story resonating the most with you and your current life situation. This is a chance to test out your Biblical Worldview glasses and start analyzing why humans do the things they do, and how to avoid falling into the same pit.

Here are a few stories I came across this weekend:

1. Gender-Free Toys – In London, “The finest toy shop in the world” removed all boys and girls sections, and instead, organized by type of toy. Instead of the pink and blue signs, the store sported red and white ones.

Chuck Colson believes this is part of a larger movement to remove gender differences. I guess you shouldn’t be worried when your son spends all his time with Barbies.

2. President Obama’s National Prayer Breakfast Speech – On Thursday, the president spoke mainly of his economic policies and how they were rooted in Christian values.

Oh, the ironies. This president only cries Christian when it suits him best. Let’s not even start on the abortion issue…

3. Komen Reverses Course - The company that promotes “pink” breast cancer awareness, has removed funding from Planned Parenthood, then they changed their mind and said they could still receive grants.

Supporting an organization means you also support how they do business. Planned Parenthood is the leading performing of abortions, therefore……well, you get the idea.
